With extensive experience in project management, business development, and sustainability, Ben Smith and Richard Price bring a wealth of expertise to Hertford Birch. Together, they are committed to delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that shape the future of clean transport and infrastructure.
Richard Price – Co-founder
Richard began his property career in 1999, transitioning from client-side roles to agency positions at Atisreal, DTZ, and Green & Partners. In 2013, he joined Amazon, where he led the UK launch of Amazon Locker and expanded the program across Europe. His focus then shifted to sustainable transport, joining an Investec-backed EV charging startup that became Osprey Charging, a leading national rapid charge point operator.
After five years in network development, Richard moved into landlord consulting at Syzygy, tackling challenges in EV infrastructure deployment. In January 2025, he co-founded Hertford Birch, combining deep industry expertise with a dynamic approach to market challenges.

Ben smith – Co-founder
Ben brings a wealth of delivery and operational experience in EV charging, real estate, and energy infrastructure. With a career spanning leadership roles at Syzygy Consulting, Connected Kerb, and Veolia, he has a proven ability to deliver large-scale projects end-to-end.
Ben has a keen interest in the Energy Sector, is a member of the Energy Institute and is studying a Masters of Science in Energy and Economics. His deep industry knowledge and strategic approach position him at the forefront of clean transport and infrastructure, driving Hertford Birch’s mission to bridge the gap between property and power.

Tom Heagerty – Senior Consultant
Tom brings hands-on experience from the frontline of the UK’s EV infrastructure rollout. Having managed accounts for some of the country’s largest public charging deployments at Connected Kerb, he has worked closely with local authorities and delivery partners to turn strategy into operational networks at scale.
Alongside this, Tom has supported various organisations in identifying and progressing wider electrification opportunities, spanning fleet transition, bus infrastructure and rapid charging. His work sits at the intersection of policy, funding and delivery, giving him a practical understanding of how to move complex projects from concept through to implementation.
